Johnstown Milliken Rotary Celebrates May Student of the Month: Marlo Abrahamson

Marlo

In a testament to her outstanding dedication to academics, extracurricular activities, and community service, Roosevelt High School senior, Marlo Abrahamson, has been selected as the Johnstown Milliken Rotary Student for the Month for May.

Throughout her high school career, Marlo has exemplified excellence both inside and outside the classroom. As an active member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Interact Club, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to service. Her involvement in these organizations underscores her dedication to making a positive impact in her community.

Not only is Marlo a dedicated student, but she is also a versatile athlete participating in three sports: gymnastics, swimming and diving, and track and field. Her athletic achievements are matched only by her academic achievements. Marlo has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while challenging herself with advanced courses such as AP Literature, AP US Government, UNC Calculus and UNC Psychology. Her commitment to academic excellence and intellectual growth is truly commendable.

However, what truly sets Marlo apart is her dedication to community service as demonstrated by her involvement in the Special Olympics gymnastics program. In an excerpt from her essay submitted to the Rotary, Marlo describes her transformative experience coaching Special Olympics gymnasts: "I knew I’d be on the Olympic Stage one day. When my boss asked my coworkers and I if we would be interested in coaching a gymnastics Special Olympic team at Gymastrz, we jumped at the opportunity. Although nerves were rising as the team was no longer a hypothetical."

Marlo's impact extends beyond the gymnasium and into the classroom where she has earned the admiration of her teachers. Mrs. Amber Timme, Marlo's Social Studies instructor, was selected by Marlo as the Rotary Teacher of the Month. Mrs. Timme commended Marlo for her academic diligence, creativity, and adaptability, highlighting her ability to excel in challenging courses and produce exceptional work.

With graduation on the horizon, Marlo is preparing to embark on the next chapter of her academic journey at The University of California Davis. Her dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence make her a shining example for her peers and a deserving recipient of the Johnstown Milliken Rotary Student of the Month award.
